Tripod fish

Obraz
This peculiar-looking fish is a Tripod fish. It occurs on the bottom of the oceans, standing on its modified fins that look like legs. Also known as "Stilt Walkers". It occurs all over the world. We can find it at depths from 900m to even 4700m!! This fish's fins are modified to help it settle on the bottom and wait for prey.  The same fins, when not the legs of the fish, serve as antennae to locate and catch prey because the fish has practically no eyes. The lack of eyes is due to their location - it is completely dark at such depths. The fish are not large, they reach about 30 cm, but their fins measure a meter, which is over 3 times larger than them.  They feed on aquatic organisms found in their surroundings, e.g. crustaceans or organisms that drift with the water. Fish are very clever and position themselves against the water current so that prey swims towards them. https://fb.watch/nPmPhnsYgc/  Tripod Fish | Online Learning Center | Aquarium of the Pacific (aquarium

Little Godzillas- Marine Iguanas

Obraz
The seemingly terrifying sea monsters are just marine iguanas. The animals look extremely dangerous, although they appear to be not that scary.  It turns out that their sharp teeth and claws are not used for hunting animals, but for tearing algae from the ground. They only eat sea plants and algae. They live on land but feed in the sea. Despite the environment they live in, they cannot breathe underwater. While hunting, they hold their breath for up to an hour. During the mating season, they look really spectacular. Males come in rainbow colors to impress females. Their cooperation with birds is extremely interesting. Mockingbirds warn iguanas with a special sound when they spot a hawk nearby. The hawks hunt iguanas and the warning allows them to find shelter. Marine iguanas live on the Galapagos Islands. https://youtu.be/4tBWakZAGqU?si=2O2uiPQ7oqVUhFgi&t=31 https://latinrootstravel.com/fortheblog/galapagos-marine-iguanas/

Bioluminescent Algae

Obraz
Glowing algae is a beautiful occurrence.  They are made of groups of tiny algae. When their surroundings move, e.g. when waves or when they touch the shore, they activate their defense mechanism.  Many chemical processes occur in their bodies, resulting in beautiful blue light. Lucefyrin molecules are responsible for them. Bioillumination is a Phenomenon experienced by over 80% of deep-sea animals.  Fireflies are an example of Bioillumination on the surface.  In California, the water turns rusty, but at night it shows its beautiful face, this happens every few years - red tide. Some of them are dangerous in high concentrations and marine organisms stay away from them. However, they attract people who are unaware of the danger. Swimming in water with algae results in skin infection. (323) Plankton Light The Sea In Wales: 'It Really Is Something Magical' - YouTube What Is Bioluminescent Algae? (treehugger.com)

jellyfish - how to deal with a sting and a few words about the most dangerous of them

Obraz
-It is important to know that jellyfish do not naturally attack humans, they usually do it in defense when we accidentally touch them. When it happens, it is worth knowing how to behave. -You need to wash the area with seawater (it is important that it is not freshwater) and then use tweezers to remove any remnants of the jellyfish body. Wipe the skin area with vinegar or alcohol, (not in the case of Portuguese man-of-war stings). Then, to relieve the pain, we can use cold and warm compresses. -Sea Wasp is one of the most dangerous jellyfish. It's almost transparent which makes it really hard to spot. The sea wasp hunts during the day in shallow water, which makes it easy to encounter it, e.g. while swimming on the beach. An extremely small dose of its poison (comparable to a grain of salt) can kill an adult man. It reaches up to 3 m long. https://www.scuba.com/blog/5-venomous-jellyfish-world/ https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/17821-jellyfish-stings
